Welcome to the Evolution Zone! Get ready to set sail on your voyage of discovery with Charles Darwin and magnifying glasses at the ready as we investigate the adaptations of iconic Galapagos species...

Welcome to Discovering Darwin! The newest addition to the award-winning Discovering Galapagos educational resources produced by the Galapagos Conservation Trust.

Nearly four years after setting sail from Plymouth, England, the HMS Beagle arrived in the Galapagos Islands on the 15th of September, 1835. This was the Beagles second voyage and was captained by Robert Fitzroy. Realising the need for a geology expert on board the ship, Fitzroy appointed Charles Darwin to accompany him on his voyage. The discoveries on this voyage would lead Darwin to produce one of the most influential theories in science to date…

Darwin discovered many new and exciting things while studying the plants and animals of the Galapagos, what will you discover?

Charles Darwin’s discoveries in Galapagos gave him some very important scientific ideas. In the Discovering Darwin chapter, we explore Darwin’s life to see how his curiosity lead him on an incredible adventure!

Darwin sparked a scientific fascination with Galapagos that has kept scientists, conservationists, historians and tourists captivated for nearly 200 years. In the Galapagos Adaptations chapter, we investigate the iconic Galapagos species that inspired him all those years ago.

In the Darwins of Today chapter, we explore the cutting-edge research being carried out in Galapagos today and the inspirational researchers that coordinate these projects. We will learn more about the exciting new discoveries that are being made every day.
